Getting Better is Sometimes Hard to See

One of the frustrating things about learning music is that progress can sometimes be almost invisible.

I practice every day.

I work on the same difficult passage.

I mess it up.

I mess it up again.

And after a week, I begin to wonder if I am getting anywhere.

Then one day, I play something without thinking about it.

A chord change that used to trip me up suddenly works.

A song I struggled to sing starts to feels comfortable.

I fingers begin to go where they're supposed to go.

That's when I realize something important.

Progress was happening all along.

I just couldn't see it day to day.

I think that's true about a lot of things in life.

Keep doing the work.

Keep showing up.

Trust the repetition.

One day you'll look back and realize that the things that once seemed impossible have become part of who you are.
