Being a song writer is pretty cool. But, every New Song Is Humbling.
One of the things I love about music is that there is always another song to learn.
One of the things I hate about music is that there is always another song to learn.
Learning a new song means starting over, even when it is a song that I wrote.
New chords. New lyrics. New timing. New guitar parts. And then trying to sing while remembering all of the above.
At first, it feels awkward. My hands don't know where to go. My brain is working overtime. I have to think about every little thing.
Then repetition slowly takes over.
The fingers begin to remember. The words come easier. The rhythm settles in.
Eventually, a song that once required complete concentration becomes something I can simply play.
That's one of the miracles of practice.
I start out thinking, I'll never get this.
And a few weeks later, I wonder why it ever seemed so difficult.
