Sometimes a Guitar Finds you

One of the challenges of being a left-handed guitar player is finding guitars. Walk into almost any music store, and you might find one or two lefties if you're lucky. Finding something unusual is even harder. So when I walked into Candyman, one of our local music stores, and spotted a vintage left-handed Takamine 12-string, I had a decision to make. Fortunately, it didn't take long!

Meet the newest member of the family: a Takamine F-385-LH.

This guitar comes from Takamine's Japanese guitar-making tradition of the 1970s, when the company was building its reputation for quality acoustic instruments. The F-385 is a dreadnought with twelve strings that produce that rich, shimmering sound you hear in folk, country, and classic rock.

And this one was made specifically for left-handed players. That's a big deal when you're used to searching for guitars that seem to have been designed for everybody but you!

It's a vintage instrument, no longer in production, and finding one in good playing condition is a treat. I couldn't pass it up.

Now comes the fun part: getting acquainted with those twelve strings and discovering what kind of music wants to come out of them.

Another guitar, another adventure, and hopefully a few new songs along the way.

Sometimes the best additions to the family are the ones you weren't looking for.
