As the band starts to really get our sound down, I'm faced with a question: what technology do I use?
We've been using OnSong to keep our music organized on our iPads. It's not perfect, but we've made it work.
Shaping the sound of the instruments, though — that's where I'm struggling. To be honest, I don't fully understand what a lot of the pedals do. I'm currently borrowing a DI and preamp for both my Ovation and my Telecaster, but I haven't found exactly the right sound I'm "looking for." I put that in quotes because I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking for. I just hope I'll know it when I hear it.
Right now, we run everything through my Bose ToneMatch and L1 system.
Pedals and boxes aren't cheap, and they do a lot of things. The investment can get steep fast — but finding the right sound matters.
