Be careful of "perfection"

The band did our Monday evening gig at Anthony's yesterday.  I would have to admit, it was not our best performance.  It wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination but I set a pretty high bar.  I want it to be “perfect”. I also acknowledge that “perfect” is not really achievable.  To hit every single note just right in three separate sets over three hours is not likely to happen.

I have discovered that  while I might hear the missed note (and the other band members may as well) rarely does the audience.  While they may be listening - they don't know the songs necessarily and often would not really recognized an off note.  Especially if we just keep moving.  The key mantra is “never stop”.

So we didn't.

I once had a mentor who said every performance is just practice for the next one.  Good - we can use the practice.
