Here in Santa Fe nominated as best New Mexico Song

I am super excited to have had the title song Here in Santa Fe nominated for the best New Mexico song.  For my first album, this is really quite an honor.

Interestingly, Here in Santa Fe was the very first song that I ever wrote. I was inspired by the wonder and beauty of this area and tried to capture the various seasons.  In fact, that was the prompt - seasons.

I had just join a song writing class.  As I was driving home, the sun was out, the wind was blowing and tumbleweeds were rolling across Highway 14.  I could see snow in the mountains.  The idea and song just started flowing out of me.  Like often happens when I am writing - it developed pretty quickly.  The music itself is simple - just two chords - E and A, with a B thrown in the refrain.

Since writing Here in Santa Fe I have written about 90 more songs, but this one has always been one of my favorites.  When it came time to begin selecting the songs that I would record for the album, it just seems like a natural.

Martin and Lauren Adair joined in with great vocals and Martin's octave mandolin really elevated the song.  They both inspired and challenged me to put out the best song I could.  And of course, George Mahn mixing put the finishing touches on it.

We will see what happens on May 17 when the winners are announced.  But, for me, being selected as a finalist my first go around is a major win.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this work especially Ron Whitmore and Joseph Colby Ewatuya my song writing teacher and mentor..
